Natural Resources Canada freeware
The freeware available through Natural Resources Canada that Sally mentioned at the workshop can be explored via the GB-Explorer, The Georgia Basin Digital Library Project, website. The URL for the Local Stories section of this site is http://georgiabasin.info/localstories/main_localstories.html. According to this website, "The Local Stories module is designed to connect people with ideas and ideas with places on the Georgia Basin landscape. This module opens the door to on-line community knowledge development by providing map-based tools for exploring and creating user-driven content and is based on established community mapping methodologies developed as a part of the Green Map System initiative. I found that the icons are somewhat confusing, but if you persist in zooming down to a fine resolution on the maps, you can get to a number of "query-able" icons that provide access to information and images submitted by users.
Problems with Registering
Please note, you will not be able to Edit pages until your permissions have been changed. This does not automatically happen after you sign up for the NCDev wiki. After signing up, I was not automatically taken to the home page for the North Coast Portal Development Space until I was given permissions to Edit pages. Please contact Renee or Tim and ask them to change your permissions to Edit after you sign up. Thanks, Kuuipo
