Student Letter of Evaluation

Talked with 4 Extension faculty (3 are Extension Program leaders) as their interaction with "clients" is most similar to our contact with students. Extension faculty are tenured in their home academic department (so they go through the same P&T process as all tenure-track faculty) and there are some similarities showing up in the responses about how they are handling (or have previously handled) a letter of evaluation.  Read this summary of their responses and suggested takeaways.

We should develop the outline of standard letter (or survey) requesting evaluation for Jennifer/Cheryl to use in conversation with Provost's office about getting the process modified for our situation.

Given that the dossier guidelines say we should have a minimum of 4-12 individual letters to summarize, I think it would behoove us to solicit some feedback each year (this also alleviates the pressure of having to coordinate this all in the final year before review).

Draft survey to guide student evaluation of teaching

Feedback from ILI-l posting was not very useful as there was no indication that any other institution using non-SET evaluation.  Takeway is that faculty librarians are mostly using SET-type of feedback for their dossiers.  Only one response indicated that student feedback was solicited in any other way, and it was noted that there were few opportunties for this solicited feedback.  Survey response used "satisfaction" scoring which is not useful for our puposes.
