049 policy
At the last monographs meeting the editing of 049 fields was discussed. Rod had previously discussed 049s with Serials Acquisitions and I have since discussed this with serials catalogers. Based on these discussions, the decision has been made that henceforth, no bracketed or other holdings data will be added to 049s. 049s will no longer be maintained for location changes and material moves. In the future, item records should be consulted for item location information.
Exceptions: The default OREU code may be edited for label printing purposes. For items that require a c-tagged 086, the first 049 in the record must contain whatever appropriate codes enable that. 049s will continue to be edited for COCC locations.
Other exceptions should be brought to the attention of your supervisor for discussion at future Council meetings.
