meeting minutes, 2006-12-15

Here's notes from 2006-12-15 meeting. Could someone volunteer to take notes next time?
I spoke with Janet Crum after our meeting and have added notes from our conversation to these notes.

_Discussion of examples on the wiki_

001 fields and prefixes from vendors
sometimes folks add a prefix when one doesn't exist. UW wants consistent alpha prefix for each set.
will take some scripting to get from (the right) 035 to 001.
will the Alliance coordinate marc coding for vendors of packages that various members are buying?

homework: folks ask individual vendors if they supply the same #s to each individual member?
(for non-OCLC sets)
Diana: will ask Lion folks about this (other vendors as time)
Tom: Oxford
Friday: Books 24x7
Carol: nexus/westlaw

Greg Doyle coordinates db purchasing for Alliance.

We could recommend how to approach this issue for retrospective conversion (for the future).

Getting members to consider Alliance sharing/merging at the licensing stage. Make sure that folks consider these issues when negotiating for records.

What about members not contributing? (aside from items contractually not able to contribute)

Recommendation: review "contribution and display policy". Add info on records that are not allowed to be added.
Also: Loading ERM brief records (not all records will be overlaid).

Friday: talk to Janet Crum, her recommendation brief records. and can we put it on the wiki?
[yes, and Janet has written Janet Chisman asking for final report from last committee]

Michelle Williams is the person at the Alliance to speak with after Nancy N. is gone. John and Janet Crum to some degree.

Opening up the edits pipeline (who should we contact for big loads? the "reserve" process, how does that work?)

Tom: PSU might start contributing electronic resources, but waiting until move to Serials Solutions.

MarcEdit: point folks to Terry Reese's website for support; maybe create MarcEdit support mailing list?

Recommendation: Alliance: get involved in III loader support [Janet Crum says: talk to Alliance before purchase to talk to someone to see who else is getting the vendor and how those are handling; have this be on staff page. Also what about OCLC batch processing for getting oclc records for non-standard 001 records, Janet thinks this processing might be free]
