How to Make a Macintosh Software build for the IC
BE SURE TO CHECK AND SET PERMISSIONS ON ALL COPIED FILES AND PROGROMS!
BE SURE TO RUN EACH PROGRAM TO PREVENT "Do you want to run this" FROM POPPING UP FOR EACH USER.
System Setup:
Perform a clean install of OS X, Only install the HP Printer drivers (saves about 3Gb)
When the installer asks for a user name : first name: OSU, Last: Libraries, Short name: osulibraries, Password is the same as the ERXX account.
Log into osulibaries account:
Enable Root user, password is the same as PC admin account
Bind to active directory (this may have to be done after Imaging)
Add the OSU logo (can be found on the web) to /lib/user pictures (set permissions)
Set the OSU logo as the user picture for the osulibraries account.
Dock:
Remove extra icons (System preferences, address book, mail, time machine, etc)
Shrink dock size a bit
Turn on magnification
System Preferences:
Enable Spaces and check "show in menu bar."
Enable mouse right click
Turn off sound effects
Turn off Bluetooth
Turn off Airport
Login options: Automatic login disabled
Display login window as names and password
Software update: Turn off auto update checking.
Time machine: Turn off "show in menu bar"
Universal Access: Turn on show in menu bar
Dashboard:
Set weather to Corvallis
Turn on Dictionary
Turn on Unit Converter
Turn on Translator
Application Setup:
MS Office:
when installing, uncheck automators and Entourage
Check for updates
Configure not to auto check for updates
Remove messenger from dock
FireFox:
Set Homepage to OSU Library
Privacy -> Turn off history items
Turn on always clear private data
Uncheck ask before clearing private data
Security -> Turn off remember passowords
Turn off Check for default browser
Turn off auto updates
Safari:
Set homepage to OSU Library
Remove history: 1 day
Remove downloaded items: when Safari quits
MS Remote Desktop (download from MS):
Download umbrella file from SCF, place with applications, name file "SCF virtual server aka Umbrella" (set permissions)
Set screen size to 1400x875
Clear your login info and save file
Set icon of umbrella to RDC icon
Adobe reader:
Don't install plug-in's
Leave preview default reader
Turn off updates
Flash:
Turn off notifications
Shockwave:
No special setup required
Cyberduck (from OSUware CD):
Turn off updates
Add "FTP" to name
Flip for Mac (windows media player support, MS download):
Turn off auto updates
Reference Software:
Create a folder "applications -> Reference software" (set permissions)
Install Scifinder scholar (following directions on the library web) to the Reference software folder.
Add a text file to the Reference Folder labeled "More reference software on Windows computers."
Create a weblink to osulibrary.oregonstate.edu/reference labeled "ask a librarian"
Change icon to OSU logo
Hide the file extension
Save in applications (Set permissions)
Profile Setup:
Set the desktop icon size to 92x92 and font size to 15
Create shortcuts on desktop to Firefox, MS office folder, Ask a librarian, Reference software, Safari , and SCF Virtual server, Line shortcuts up in a row above the dock, place the hard drive icon at the start of that row too.
When finished with set up clear all web browser caches
Install printers
