To carry out this charge, the Instruction Work Group will gather input from stakeholders throughout the OSU Libraries and OSU campus. The IWG will maintain open communication with colleagues, Department Heads, Associate University Librarians, about decisions and projects.
The OSU Libraries Instruction Work Group will:
1. Develop an instruction program that supports the evolving information needs of undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty.
2. Coordinate the Libraries' efforts to promote information literacy as an academic goal of OSU.
3. Develop and coordinate a professional development program to enhance the teaching skills of library faculty.
4. Make recommendations to the ULLIA and RCIS department heads for the personnel and the material resources necessary to develop and support the instruction program and to build capacity for library faculty. Find additional sources for these resources, where appropriate.
5. Explore innovative means to deliver instruction.
6. Take the lead in identifying means to incorporate information literacy concepts into user interactions in all the library's public service areas.
7. Support ULLIA in their efforts to promote the incorporation of information literacy into lower-division courses, student affairs programs and additional spots as appropriate.
8. Support RCIS in their efforts to promote the incorporation of information literacy into discipline-specific curricula through their liaison work.
9. Develop methods to assess the Library's instruction program recognizing that different methods will be required to assess student learning and library faculty teaching skills. Determine the most appropriate instruction statistics to inform the ongoing development of the instruction program; monitor their collection and analysis.
10. Provide support for the university's teaching faculty to help them teach information literacy concepts and design library research assignments.
