Guin Library Estuaries Project: First Quarterly Report, July 2, 2009
Susan Gilmont
Purpose of the project:
This project has two purposes: to identify and make accessible publications about North Coast Oregon estuaries through the development of bibliographies, and to identify documents about Oregon estuaries that would be good candidates for digitization.
Work done, April-June, 2009
Most of my time since receiving this assignment in April has been spent learning how best to convert records from ProCite to EndNote, and learning how to set up templates for the future bibliographies. With the intense involvement and assistance of Judy Mullen, I am satisfied that we have a good working method for converting records. I have created the "Estuaries General" output style for creating bibliographies in EndNote, and continue to edit it.
I set up EndNote files in the Guin shared drive space for all the named estuaries, and have created EndNote files for other locations. I added a file for the Necanicum River; also for Beaver Creek (in Lincoln County); Yachats (in Lincoln County); and files for Siltcoos Creek, the Sixes River, Tahkenitch Creek, and Tenmile Creek, because these sites were listed as Oregon estuaries in some publications. These are not major estuaries, and may fall outside the bounds of this project. Nevertheless, I feel that it does no harm to have space available in which to 'capture' references as I come across them. . It will be interesting, for example, to see what literature is available on Beaver Creek.
The Salmon River ProCite file was converted, and is now being edited. In addition to converted records, I have input or copied 179 records into the various new EndNote bibliography files. The file in the wiki tracking progress on this project has been updated.
