Policy on Access to the Library (Revised 2005)
The Guin Library is a unit of Oregon State University and as such is a public institution. This specialized research library has a collection that focuses on the marine sciences, fisheries, aquaculture, and marine policy. The mission of HMSC is to encourage the wise use of the ocean and its resources. The primary mission of the Guin Library is to support the research and teaching undertaken at the Center. Any community user should remember that the staff and the resources are primarily committed to this mission. The Library is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8-5 excluding official university holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day.
The general public is welcome to use the collection and resources during open hours. Most items in the collection are available for off-site use through interlibrary loan through a user's local public library.
Students, faculty, researchers and staff who are affiliated with offices or labs at HMSC, or who attending classes at HMSC may request after hours access from the librarian.
