Consortial Purchasing

For over a decade, the OSU Libraries have worked with consortial groups to acquire electronic resources.  These consortial deals have saved money and provided access to a number of resources we could not otherwise afford.

Orbis Cascades Alliance

The Orbis Cascades Alliance is a consortium of 36 private and public colleges and universities in Oregon and Washington.  The Summit Borrowing System allows faculty and students to borrow monographs from other libraries in the consortium.  In addition, the consortium has negotiated deals for numerous electronic databases and journals, including:

  • Saving $71,000 per year on 31 databases and puiblisher packages, including LexisNexis Academic and American Chemical Society journals
  • Providing access to over 1,000 Springer journals beyond the 153 journals we subscribe to
  • Providing access to over 400 Elsevier ScienceDirect journals beyond the 512 we subscribe to

Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA)

The Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) is a consoritum of 32 research libraries located across 17 Midwestern and Western states. Our membership in GWLA supports our InterLibrary Loanservice and has provided savings for several key electronic resources:

  • Saving over $4,000 per year on BioOne and IEEE Electronic Library
  • Access to over 200 Wiley journals beyond the 286 we already subscribe to
